Ohio Department of Education

Special Education Profiles and Ratings Released

The Department released the 2020-2021 Special Education Profiles and 2020 Special Education Ratings for all districts and community schools on Dec. 17. The Special Education Profile displays the district's performance on key indicators established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and informs the district of any required activities based on these indicators. This year’s profile includes a new section measuring disproportionality. A video walkthrough of the new disproportionality section and other resources are available on the Equity in Special Education page.

The Department issued each district’s 2020 Special Education Rating with the profile. The rating is based on a subset of the data included in the profile. The Special Education Profile and annual rating help districts facilitate continuous improvement in their special education programs. The Office for Exceptional Children emailed notifications to superintendents, special education contacts and community school sponsors.

The 2020 and 2021 Special Education Profiles are being released in two phases:

  • The first release on Dec. 17, 2020 contains all indicators that may have required actions. This includes student outcome, compliance, dis-proportionality and survey indicators.
  • The second release, targeted for April 2021, will add informational student outcome indicators that do not have required actions.
